A dental implant is an innovative tooth replacement consisting of three pieces:

The Implant Post — An implant is a small screw-like post our periodontist places surgically in the jawbone. Over the next several months, bone and tissue surround and fuse with the post as it heals, known as osseointegration, creating a strong foundation for replacement teeth, such as a crown, bridge, or denture.
The Abutment — After implant healing, we attach a small connector called an abutment to the top of the implant post, connecting the implant to the replacement tooth.
The Restoration — In the final step, we securely attach a custom crown, bridge, or denture to the abutment. Our dental lab customizes your restoration to match the color, shape, and size of surrounding teeth for a seamless, natural-looking result.

The 4-Step Dental Implant Process

Initial Dental Implant Consultation

The implant process starts with an initial consultation at our office. This session has you meet one of our dentists, who’ll confirm your treatment goals, your oral health, and other key factors. Such factors will help us determine whether dental implants would suit you.

If you don’t initially qualify for dental implants, don’t panic. We can provide preliminary services – gum disease treatment, periodontal therapy, and so on – to make you a good candidate later. Once you’ve had those procedures, you’ll have a mouth (and jaw) strong enough for implant posts.

Dental Implant Surgery

If we approve your care, you’ll receive implant surgery a few days after your consultation. Our own Dr. will supervise this step, using her education and skills to perform the placement herself.

All implant surgeries involve the following:

Anesthesia – Before the surgery itself, our team will numb your mouth with anesthesia. Doing so ensures you get pain-free care.
Incision(s) – We’ll make a gum incision at the treatment site after the anesthetic “kicks in.” Through this cut, we’ll make room in your mouth for the actual implant post.
Implant Placement – Our dentists will place your implant precisely, carefully, and effectively, with advanced tools and methods. To that extent, treatment gives you a new tooth in no time.
Gum Closure – After placing the implant, we’ll close your incision to prevent a tooth infection. Infected. We’ll then set a cap over the post.

Dental Implant Osseointegration & Abutment

Dental implants start fusing with the jaw shortly after surgery. Indeed, this process of “osseointegration” lasts roughly four to six months and creates secure and stable tooth replacements. It’ll make sure your new teeth are permanently affixed.

You’ll return to our office for a follow-up surgery after the implant fuses. For this latter procedure, we’ll place an abutment – metal connector – over your base post. A dental lab will craft your final restoration.

Delivery of Dental Implant Restoration(s)

To conclude the treatment, our dentists will set your final restoration onto your implant post. This prosthetic can vary based on how many teeth you’ve lost. As such, it could be anything from a simple dental crown to an implant bridge or implant denture.

Fitting your restoration shouldn’t take long. All in all, we just have to apply some dental cement to the abutment and make final adjustments. You can enjoy a fully restored smile once those tasks are done.
